Gerlof Fokko Mees

Gerlof Fokko Mees (* 16. Juni 1926 in Velsen, Niederlande) ist ein holländischer Ornithologe und Ichthyologe.

Leben und Wirken

Mees wurde in den Niederlanden geboren und wuchs in Niederländisch-Indien auf. Von 1958 bis 1963 war er Kurator für Wirbeltiere am Western Australian Museum und von 1963 bis zu seinem Ruhestand im Jahre 1991 Kurator für Vögel am Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie (heute Naturalis). In dieser Zeit unternahm er ausgedehnte Expeditionen auf die Marianen, nach Indonesien, nach Afrika, auf die Norfolkinsel und nach Südamerika. Das Hauptforschungsfeld von Mees ist die Familie der Brillenvögel, über die er drei Bücher verfasste. Mees ist Mitglied des International Ornithological Committee.

Ehrentaxa

Nach Mees sind Taxa wie Brachyrhamdia meesi , Caprimulgus meesi und Ninox rufa meesi benannt.
