Willis John Gertsch


Willis John Gertsch (* 1906; † 1998) war ein US-amerikanischer Arachnologe. Er beschrieb viele Webspinnen (mehr als 760 Arten) und Skorpione, darunter so bekannte Arten wie die Brown recluse Spider (Loxosceles reclusa). Insbesondere hat er sehr viele Loxosceles-Arten (Sicariidae) beschrieben und sich den Wolfspinnen (Lycosidae) gewidmet. Seine Forschungen an einer Vielzahl von Spinnenfamilien trug mit zur heutigen Systematik der Webspinnen bei. In der sehr langen Reihe seiner Veröffentlichungen ist wahrscheinlich sein wichtigstes Werk American Spiders (1949 und 1979).
