Early Pleistocene, Early Biharian, Farneta faunal unit, Latest Villafranchian. There are three separate lignite mine workings, but the levels are thought to be the roughly the same date based on the macro- and micromammalian remains. The dominance of arvicolids nay suggest an environment chracaterised locally by open areas with a cold climate. This hypothesis is further strengthened by the presence of the giant deer Megaceroides obscurus. Mimomys savini has been reported previously, but this is thought to have been the mis-identification of a large Mimomys chalinei upper M1.

This site has been dated to the Late Pliocene or Early Pleistocene by many different authors. There is a suggestion in this paper that there may be a mix of faunas from both time periods at this site, particularly based on the presence of Hippopotamus. Villafranchian according to Martin (1971)

Middle Pleistocene (Biharian), roughly 0.8-0.7Ma. There are a number of beds within the cave - from A (lowermost)-L (topmost), not all of which contain fauna. Each faunal level has been entered separately. Fauna comes from bed G, which consists of deteriorated (altere) fallen rocks of a reddish colour, lacustrine limestones, travertines with seeds of Celtis and stalagmite floors. Total thickness between 1.5-3 metres. Fauna indicative of a temperate environment - macrofauna indicates warm and dry conditions, the cold environment rodents in level H have disappeared and seeds of Celtis are very abundant.

Bed is described as a whole - it contains deteriorated (altere) browny-reddish fallen rocks, with reddish clayey silts. The whole bed is 1-2 metres thick. Fauna of lower bed B is indicative of a temperate and humid/wet environment.
